The Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications sets and supports marketing and communications goals and strategies for the Office of Enrollment Management, as assigned, and is responsible for project management and coordination for a variety of print and digital marketing and communications deliverables; content development across print and digital channels; management of communication flows targeted at specific prospective-student, current-student, or influencer audiences; and implementation of content marketing and social media strategies and tactics.
The Assistant Director must be very organized, extremely detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple tasks at the same time, meet deadlines, and follow through on tasks to successful and timely completion. The successful candidate must have excellent grammar, writing, and proofreading skills; must possess an understanding of marketing; and must demonstrate creativity, critical thinking, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills; along with a personal commitment to excellence and efficiency, and a passion to serve future and current Mercer students of all ages in achievement of their educational goals.
Duties include: managing a variety of print and digital projects and mailings; creating, implementing, and managing multiple communication flows and drip-marketing campaigns; coordinating with print management and mailing services to implement direct mail campaigns; writing, editing, and proofreading marketing content for a variety of audiences to be used across multiple communication channels or campaigns; writing for search engine optimization; creating and maintaining digital content, such as websites, landing pages, blogs, and social media channels; implementing content marketing and social media strategies and tactics; providing basic graphic design support and managing production of in-house print jobs; gathering, tracking, and reporting on information and performance data related to projects and goals; serving as team liaison to leaders, stakeholders, and committees for campaigns, projects, and reporting, as assigned.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in Marketing, Communications, Technical Communication, Public Relations, English, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
In addition, candidates must have at least two years of the following prior experience: writing content with a marketing voice for a variety of audiences with the ability to adhere to writing styles/rules; participating in marketing/communications strategy development and implementation; simultaneously managing successful completion of multiple communication-related projects; writing and maintaining marketing-related content on digital platforms; coordinating and collaborating with graphic designers, writers, photographers, printers, etc., and coordinating multiple details and deadlines with accuracy and urgency. Prior experience in higher education marketing, using Slate CRM, and WordPress CMS, and Adobe Creative Suite is desired.
