This position is crucial to the operation of the department. The Dispatcher answers calls and dispatches officers in an efficient and orderly manner. The Dispatcher must decide the priority of calls when there is more than one problem to deal with. Maintains the daily log of incidents and submission of reports. Monitors surveillance of cameras on campus and performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Requires high school diploma or GED and excellent telephone and communication skills. Must be computer literate and detail oriented with the ability to handle emergency situations in a calm manner. Must be willing to work assigned shifts. Current GCIC certification and/or previous experience working in a police department is desirable.

  • Must know basic operation of computer using windows programs (keyboarding, saving to discs, etc.) to fill out the daily log
  • Must be able to deal with potential pressure of dealing with multi-emergency situations at a time in a calm manner in order to dispatch efficiently
  • Must be able to deal with proximity to potentially dangerous people who may curse, spit, scream, etc.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time to operate radio, computer, and camera monitors.
  • Should be able to adapt to sudden changes in schedule if needs arise.

Base: $11 an hour up to commensurate with experience
