Mercer University seeks an experienced and innovative Director of Employer Relations to support a university-wide priority of career development and positive outcomes for all students and graduates.

The Director of Employer Relations is one of a team of career professionals housed in the Center for Career and Professional Development, a unit in the Division of Student Affairs. The Center for Career and Professional Development is a centralized center that serves 10 of Mercer's 12 colleges/schools.

The vision and mission of the Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD) are to equip and empower students and alumni to thrive in the lifelong process of career and professional development by providing customized, innovative, and comprehensive career education and resources.

The position is based at the Mercer Cecil B. Day campus in Atlanta, Georgia, but necessitates the ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment across multiple university locations in Georgia. The Director of Employer Relations must be physically present for on- and off-campus work assignments during business hours and occasionally during evenings and/or weekends, sometimes in multiple locations across the state.

The Employer Relations Director will work collaboratively with the Center for Career and Professional Development Executive Director to develop, execute, and assess an employer relations plan that supports student and alumni employment and institutional priorities.

Required Qualifications

A master's degree from an accredited college/university in Business, Higher Education Administration, Human Resources, or a related discipline and four years of direct experience in career services within higher education, university recruiting, talent acquisition, or a related field are required. Candidates must have proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams, as well as Zoom and/or another teleconferencing platform. Candidates must have the ability to learn new technologies quickly.

Candidates must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the university's carrier as this position requires some travel.


• Keen ability to establish professional relationships with constituents within local corporations/companies and community organizations.
• Knowledge of career development, workforce needs of employers, and talent acquisition/recruitment procedures, including EEO laws and regulations
• Strong listening, advising, and consulting abilities.
• Ability to effectively work with and lead a diverse constituency at all levels of the organization, both internally and externally.
• Comfort with making cold inquiries (phone, and electronic communication, some in-person).
• Capacity to balance multiple and varied tasks, meet deadlines, and use well-developed time management and organizational skills.
• Discretion when accessing and handling confidential information.
• Advanced presentation and communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences in individual settings as well as public speaking settings with an audience ranging from 5-200+ people, both in-person and via teleconference.
• Moderate to advanced ability to use communication and virtual collaboration tools (MS Teams, Zoom, Webex, etc.)
• Moderate to advanced ability to use web-based or software marketing design tools (Canva, Adobe, etc.)
• Ability to interpret and analyze qualitative and quantitative data used to inform employer relations strategies.
• Ability to work independently and self-motivated.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends occasionally as needed to direct events and travel for conferences and relationship development.
