- Assists the Cyber Technical Lead, more senior cybersecurity personnel, and/or the Information System Security Manager(s) (ISSM) with:

- The sustainment of network/information system security through testing, analysis, and the application of policy and controls.

- Obtaining certification and accreditation of systems, to include process support, analysis support, coordination support, security certification test support, security documentation support, investigations, software research, hardware introduction and release, emerging technology research inspections, and periodic audits. 

- Conducting threat and risk analysis and analyze the business impact of new and existing systems and technologies to eliminate risk, performance, and capacity issues.

- The implementation of vulnerability assessments and configuration audits of operational systems, web servers, and databases to detect patterns, insecure features, and malicious activities in the infrastructure.

- The analysis, investigation, testing, evaluation, and deployment of security technology and procedures.

- Running diagnostics on any changes to data to verify any undetected breaches.

- Developing custom systems for specialized security features and procedures for software systems, networks, data centers, and hardware.

- Development and implementation of information security standards, guidelines, and procedures.

- The development, review, and evaluation of System Security Plans, System Security Authorization Agreements, systems and networks diagrams, Security Requirements Traceability Matrices, risk assessments, and associated information system Authorization and Accreditation (A&A) documents.

- Observation, evaluation, and documentation of security certification testing.

- Performing evidence gathering and evaluations.

- Performing incident remediation.

- Performing incident activity review and analysis.

- The application of Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).

- The implementation government policy (i.e., NISPOM, DCID 6/3) and make process tailoring recommendations.

- Static/dynamic code analysis results review and remediation.

- Conducting counteractive protocols and reporting incidents. 

- Customized risk ratings for vulnerabilities based on company policies and maintain IT security controls documentation.

- OWASP testing methodology, Dynamic and Static Application Security Testing, re-engineering, automation, ASP.NET/JAVA, IDS/IPS systems, Burp Suite, Nmap, and Metasploit, etc.

- Perform Event & Security log analysis for Windows and/or Linux Machines to identify potential security events.

- Develops of software-based remediation using Python, C#, Java, JavaScript, J-Query. 

- Cybersecurity requires the incumbent to attain knowledge across the spectrum of security issues and technology. The Staff Cybersecurity Specialist is expected to be Proficient/Competent in one of the following areas and a Beginner/Novice in the remaining areas; software security, system administration, security testing, information assurance, design, implementation, validation, and compliance.

- Participates in Technical Interchange Meetings with customers.

- Complies with all Executive Director approved MERC-wide policies and procedures.

- Adheres to approved MSP quality management policies and principles, and promotes an attitude of commitment to continuous quality improvement. 

- Remains alert for any problem or opportunity that might lead to additional business for any MERC core business area.

- Promotes MERC capabilities and interests to customers and potential customers.

- Reports potential business opportunities to the Director of Acquisition Strategy through the Chief Engineer.

Required Qualifications

- U.S. Citizenship is required.

- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.

- A Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Forensics, Information Assurance, or other related information security focused degree from an ABET Accredited Institution; or a Master's degree in same.

- CompTIA Security+ Certification.
