The Mercer University Tift College of Education invites applications for a Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor of P-12 Leadership. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of the Atlanta Teacher Education and Educational Leadership units, the successful candidate will be housed on the University’s Atlanta Campus. The P-12 Educational Leadership program provides graduate students with vigorous instruction and mentoring necessary for completion of M.Ed., Ed. S., and Ph.D. degrees and GaPSC-approved Tier I and Tier II leadership certification. This is a full-time, 9-month non-tenure track position with the opportunity for summer employment. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.


The successful candidate will be responsible for advising graduate students and teaching blended, in-person, and online courses in the P-12 Educational Leadership program. Further, the successful candidate will provide robust instruction, advisement, and mentoring to facilitate each student’s capacity to apply the knowledge, tools, resources, and skills necessary to excel as a PK-12 leader. It is expected that the successful candidate will participate in activities of programmatic, professional, and collaborative development linked to instructional quality and student success as well as service to the Tift College and University communities.




  • Earned doctorate in P-12 educational leadership from an accredited college or university
  • Experience as a P-12 school administrator at the district and/or building level or at an independent school
  • Knowledge of the major challenges facing the assurance of quality classroom teaching and student learning and awareness of research-based approaches to address them
  • Facility in leading effective change at the school or district level in settings serving students from diverse economic and ethnic backgrounds
  • Earnest commitment to supporting a culture of collaboration, inclusion, equity, and diversity
  • Commitment to engaging and working collegially with faculty, staff, and administrators
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 



  • Growth mindset and excellent networking and recruiting abilities
  • Facility in the use of technology to develop and deliver online synchronous and asynchronous instruction
  • Experience as a superintendent or deputy superintendent of a P-12 district or head of an independent school
  • Understanding of the intersection of research and practice in school leadership
