Responsibilities |
Under the supervision of the Laboratory Coordinator, this person assists in the management and operations of chemistry preparation rooms in support of chemistry instruction and research. The Assistant Coordinator prepares solutions and reagents according to standard procedures. The Assistant Coordinator assists with chemical waste processing, maintenance of instruments and apparatus, and record keeping. The Assistant Coordinator supervises student workers and assures that student workers learn and follow appropriate safety protocols. At the discretion of the Laboratory Coordinator, this person purchases chemicals, laboratory supplies, and apparatus. During the summer months, the Assistant Coordinator performs limited secretarial duties for the Department of Chemistry.

Required Qualifications |
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in chemistry or BS/BA with other science major and with chemistry minor is required, along with some chemistry laboratory experience (can include college). Must have the ability to lift and carry large volumes of chemical solutions, up to 30 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Must have chemistry lab skills for safe and accurate handling of chemicals and waste disposal. Computer competency with working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required. Must have excellent organization, communication and interpersonal skills.
