Responsibilities

The Staff Counselor supports the overall mission of Counseling and Psychological Services through the provision of individual, group, and programmatic services, including outreach activities that extend the reach of services to the broader community. She/he may provide crisis and consultation services, as needed. The Staff Counselor supports the administrative and clinical supervision of practicum/internship students, when appropriate.

Required Qualifications

A master’s degree from an accredited college/university in counseling, clinical or counseling psychology, marriage & family therapy, or social work is required. A relevant doctoral degree will also be considered.  Additionally, candidates must have a current Georgia license as LPC, LCSW, Psychologist, or LMFT from Georgia State Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers, or Marriage and Family Therapists or Georgia State Board of Examiners of Psychologists. If not licensed in Georgia, candidates must be fully licensed in another state with ability to be licensed in Georgia within 6 months of hire. Candidates must have some post-master's professional counseling experience. 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Understanding of both clinical and developmental issues confronting university students and ability to implement comprehensive services to address these issues, including assessment and time-limited counseling modalities.
  • Experience in conducting individual psychotherapy with a diverse population.
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret and apply professional standards & relevant laws for counseling centers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to maintain confidentiality within legal and institutional guidelines.
  • Familiarity with university policies and procedures, student issues and concerns, and campus issues.
  • Proficiency in public speaking and leading group discussions.
  • Excellent written, verbal, administrative, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills (e.g. file management, time management).
