Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide comprehensive administrative support to multiple faculty members, including those outside of Biomedical Sciences. It requires fundamental computer skills, including spreadsheet and database management, basic grant and departmental budget reconciliation, knowledge of Mercer's purchasing system, word-processing, e-mailing, and excellent communication skills. Tasks in the broad areas of curriculum, committee, research, and budget support are assigned by the faculty and are typically prioritized according to guidelines given by the supervising faculty member. This position is essential for enabling faculty members to fulfill responsibilities in the areas of scholarly activity, teaching, and university service. This position requires indirect supervision, the ability to work independently, and careful attention to detail. It is essential to be able to work with cooperatively with secretaries and administrative staff in the School of Medicine, to be prepared to support the smooth flow of day-to-day operations, and to be an effective interface with the public.

Required Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED and one year of administrative support experience are required. 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to use MS Excel to create and maintain spreadsheets and prepare budget information for faculty.
  • Ability to use MS Word to prepare correspondence, manuscripts, etc.
  • Ability to use Internet Explorer to access information from the internet and to use Outlook to send, receive, and forward email.
  • Ability to use various copy and fax equipment to duplicate and communicate needed information.
  • Willingness and ability to interact with various personalities and to meet expectations of multiple faculty members and co-workers; provide support for other faculty members, when necessary.
  • Enthusiasm for learning new procedures.
  • Experience working with and maintaining budgets.
  • Professional demeanor, accuracy and timeliness are essential factors for success.

Base: $12 an hour up to commensurate with experience
