Responsibilities

The Mercer University Tift College of Education seeks an Assistant or Associate Professor of Higher Education Leadership to teach graduate classes, engage in scholarship, and inspire students who are preparing for academic, administrative, and/or executive careers in postsecondary or independent schools settings. The Higher Education Leadership program provides graduate students with vigorous research-based instruction and mentoring necessary for completion of M.Ed. and Ph.D. degrees. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of the Atlanta Teacher Education and Education Leadership units, the successful candidate will be housed on the University’s Atlanta Campus. The position is a full-time, 9-month tenure-track appointment, with the opportunity for summer employment. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.   

Responsibilities 

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching in-person, blended, and online courses in the College’s M.Ed. and Ph.D. Higher Education programs, advising students enrolled in these graduate programs, and guiding the research of doctoral students. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching and research while contributing to an environment of professionalism, collaboration, and collegial engagement.

Required:

  • Earned doctorate in higher education, independent school leadership, or a closely related field from an accredited university
  • Knowledge of the major challenges and opportunities facing higher education or independent schools and awareness of research-based approaches to address them
  • Adeptness in providing exemplary graduate level instruction in the discipline 
  • Capacity to direct and serve on doctoral dissertation committees
  • Purposeful intent to pursue a scholarly research agenda that is relevant to the discipline
  • Commitment to encouraging students and collaborating with faculty, staff, and administrators
  • Fidelity to a culture of inclusion, equity, and diversity
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 

Preferred:

  • Facility in the use of technology to develop and deliver online synchronous and asynchronous instruction 
  • Ability to obtain federal, state and/or private grants and contracts and manage funded projects 
  • Knowledgeable of quantitative and/or qualitative research methodologies
