The Assistant Director of Service and Civic Engagement has duties for both the Center for Engaged Learning and Student Affairs (Campus Life). The Assistant Director provides leadership and programming for the student-focused groups MerServ and Mobilize Mercer, empowering students on the Macon campus to be engaged in service activities and civic and voter engagement initiatives. The Assistant Director also oversees work study and service-learning students in America Reads/America Counts, with support activities including student recruitment, on-boarding, and class presentations. The Assistant Director helps assist with Center for Engaged Learning events and is the point person for promoting volunteer and service-learning opportunities through social media, BearPulse, websites, and other on- and off-campus outlets.

Required Qualifications

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university and two years of prior experience with event planning and execution are required, as well as demonstrated experience in the fields of community engagement or service-learning/volunteerism. Candidates with a master's degree are highly desirable. Candidates should have experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Google Docs, and various social media platforms. 

Candidates should have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the university's carrier.

  • Demonstrates experience in the field of community engagement or service-learning in order to liaise effectively between University faculty, students, and community partners and to manage risk/liability procedures.
  • Has excellent supervisory skills to provide leadership for student-led programming and excellent project management skills and proven ability to meet deadlines in order to plan and execute service events.
  • Has data management skills in order to track student service activities.
  • Has excellent written and oral communication skills in communicating with varied constituencies such as community partners, students, and faculty.
  • Social media, marketing, and web site maintenance in order to promote service to varied constituencies such as current students, prospective students, and community members.
  • Must be able to work some nights and weekends.
