Responsibilities

The Robert McDuffie Center for Strings seeks a full-time professional to serve as our Operations Manager. This person will administer the Center’s daily activities, operations, concerts and event planning.

The mission of the McDuffie Center is to provide its students an intensive, conservatory experience with the practicality of a specific business-oriented curriculum. Founded as a special institute within Mercer University’s Townsend School of Music, the McDuffie Center for Strings’ enrollment is limited to 27 students: twelve violinists, six violists, six cellists and three double bassists. Students accepted to the Center receive a full-tuition University scholarship.

The McDuffie Center also strengthens the arts community by providing quality performances and educational programs to the Macon and broader area. We are located at the Bell House 315 College Street, Macon, GA 31207, part of the School of Music at Mercer University.

As the operations manager, you will serve as a vital member of a small, hardworking team, reporting to the Director. We are a string program within the larger school of music but mainly autonomous. Our goal is to create an inspirational learning environment for our 27 students, 13 Distinguished Artists, and 20 plus Atlanta Symphony Orchestra musical mentors. We put on multiple concerts and events every year, including 4 full symphony concerts, 6 Fabian Chamber Music Concerts, 6 Young Artist Concerts and 2 young artist chamber music marathon concerts, plus several additional special events. We have partnerships with multiple organizations. You will have the opportunity to help shepherd the McDuffie Center into its next exciting phase, as we further develop our community events and expand our international reach.
