Responsibilities |
The Diagnostic Lab Associate's primary duties will involve receiving and processing samples into the LIMS system, a knowledge of lab procedures, and understanding the importance of health policies and safety regulations. This will include proper preparation of clinical samples for testing, sample storage, record keeping, maintaining equipment, safe work environment, cleaning and sterilizing equipment, working with biohazard waste, complying with frequently evolving procedures, providing technical support, monitoring supplies, performing end of day procedures, and being familiar with Windows, Excel, and Word. This Diagnostic Lab Associate also needs to be an effective technical communicator when interacting with the Lab Manager, Director, Specialist, Consultants, and other laboratory personnel. The incumbent is expected to work well as part of the Diagnostic Lab team and independently.

Required Qualifications |
A bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology or closely related field from an accredited college/university and some relevant laboratory experience are required for performing diagnostic tests. In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Candidates must have: strong computer skills to enter data, maintain protocol manuals, conduct literature and internet searches; familiarity with and can organize data with LIMS, QuantStudio, Word, Power Point and Excel; ability to learn computer-based and web-based applications required for data collection and management, document preparation and formatting, and uploading of patient information.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities |
1. Proficiency in aseptic pipetting techniques. 2. Knows how to use biological and chemical formulae in calculations and in practice to prepare experimental reagents. Can competently operate research specific as well as standard laboratory equipment. 3. Has the ability to repeatedly lift and carry up to 25 lbs. for periods of one or two hours with or without reasonable accommodation in order to transport cases of lab supplies on storage shelves, transfer waste, and to move distilled water/buffer containers. 4. Knows how to record information clearly and accurately in order to maintain laboratory notebooks. 5. Has organizational and managerial skills to maintain the general order, cleanliness, and safety of the laboratory. 6. Ability to provide excellent customer service to meet applicant, student, faculty, and administration needs. 7. Ability to independently carry out instructions. 8. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. 9. Excellent organizational skills to manage diverse projects. 10. Ability to preserve the confidentiality of applicant and Admissions Committee information. 11. Ability to preserve the confidentiality of student records and Student Affairs information. 12. Ability to interact professionally with applicants, students, faculty, staff, and external entities.
