Responsibilities

The Grand Opera House is a 115 year old historic theatre, proud to be one of the anchors of the revitalization of downtown Macon, GA, a storied city with a rich musical heritage 75 miles south of Atlanta. Macon is the hometown of legendary artists like Little Richard, Otis Redding, The Allman Brothers Band, Jason Aldean, and many others.  Macon was established as a “city in a park” and remains a walkable community that is home to many festivals and historic sites, including Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park.

The Director of Patron Services and Rentals is a crucial contributing member of a creative performing arts venue staff which has managed to expand and diversify its programming and audiences during COVID restrictions.  The position manages many of the daily business operations of The Grand. Duties include supervision of Mercer Ticket Sales (MTS), which is responsible for ticketing of The Grand Opera House; Mercer University Athletics, theatre department and music events; as well as external clients, like the Macon Film Festival.  MTS staff supervised include a Ticketing Coordinator and part-time student staff. The position also supervises front-of-house operations whose staff includes two part-time house managers, volunteer ushers, a part-time bar manager and bartenders. The director is also the primary point of contact for rental inquiries of the facility for performances, film production and private events and processes the settlement and billing for those events.

Required Qualifications

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university is required along with two years of prior experience managing ticketing systems, which must include experience working with financial systems, cash, and deposits as well as customer service. Prior supervisory experience is also required. Additionally, candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure to serve alcohol in the state of Georgia. 

Mercer Ticket Sales uses the Tickets.com Provenue system so applicants should be experienced administering and maintaining that software or a similar networked ticketing system as well as related printing and scanning hardware. Applicants will also need to be skilled in the interpretation, preparation, and execution of financial statements, invoices and settlements. Similarly, applicants should be possess knowledge of the best practices for safe, courteous service in front of house operations, including compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, service of alcohol and rules regarding food preparation, service and storage.
