Responsibilities

The Legal Writing Specialist will be part of Mercer Law School’s Academic Success Team, reporting directly to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and will work to diagnose law students’ problems with written communication and efficiently help them overcome those problems.

The Writing Specialist will work collaboratively with other members of the Academic Success Team, librarians and faculty, especially those who teach first-year courses, Legal Writing courses, upper-level drafting and advocacy courses, and seminars, to improve student writing skills across the curriculum.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have a JD from ABA accredited Law School, a valid state Bar License, and three years of experience teaching legal writing or working in the field of legal writing. Candidates with a Georgia State Bar License and/or who have a master’s degree in English (Rhetoric and Composition) are preferred. Candidates should have a strong academic record, with demonstrated excellence in legal writing and writing pedagogy.  Additionally, candidates should have strong interpersonal skills; the ability to collaborate with a variety of institutional stakeholders; the ability to work well with students both individually and in groups; and strong oral and written communication skills.
