Responsibilities

The Academic Success/Bar Exam Specialist will focus on implementing strategies and programs to enhance students' and graduates' Bar Exam success. The candidate will work on multiple levels to meet this objective, including individual support for current students and Bar re-takers, school-wide instruction on Bar Exam topics and strategies, and administrative collaboration aimed to enhance Bar Exam passage rates over time. Additionally, he or she will work, in conjunction with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the faculty Bar Success Committee, to identify and develop new or nationally recognized programs and ideas to help further the goal of enhancing Bar Exam success. The position is part of Mercer Law School's Academic Success program and reports to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have a JD from ABA accredited Law School, a valid Georgia Bar License, and at least one year of prior experience providing academic support to students in a law school (instruction or tutoring will be considered).

The successful candidate must have:

  • Strong skills in legal writing to communicate and coach, counsel, tutor, and assist law students with their writing skills.
  • Knowledge of Bar admission standards in Georgia and other states to prepare students to take the bar exam.
  • Knowledge of pedagogical methods in order to enhance instruction.
  • Knowledge of law school curricula to aid students in choosing appropriate professional paths.
  • Knowledge in how to communicate and deliver instruction to diverse learning styles.

The candidate should have a demonstrated ability to work with law students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds. The candidate must have excellent writing, speaking and organizational skills.
