Responsibilities

The Academic Program Support Specialist is a project-oriented position serving all department chairs and the Atlanta-based assistant deans, and program coordinators in Atlanta, Henry, and Douglas Centers in the College of Professional Advancement on data collection, data analysis, and data summary presentation tasks related to accreditation with special attention to assessment of program effectiveness and on confirmation of adjunct faculty assignments. In addition, the position supports clinical placement coordination tasks in the College and student enrollment tracking as it relates to retention of new and continuing students. The position serves the College’s non-credit training programs as needed. 

Required Qualifications

Two years of college coursework and two years of administrative support experience, to include working with databases and customer service, are required. In lieu of education, equivalent directly related experience will be considered. The academic program support specialist needs excellent data presentation/technology skills, ability to work independently with periodic supervision, good project prioritization skills, good communication skills with ability to liaison with a variety of faculty, college and university leaders, students, and representatives of other academic and operational support units at the University. Candidates must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Must be proficient in using Microsoft application software suites.
  • Ability to understand and operate a database to efficiently coordinate student admissions information in Mercer University’s student information system database.
  • Must have excellent communication skills to deliver information to prospective students, to create correspondence, and write admission sections of university publications.
  • Ability to interact and communicate procedures (written and verbally) with adult students, staff, and faculty.
  • Has the human relations skills to work effectively with prospective students, applicants, students, staff, and faculty.
  • Must be familiar with admission and registration policies and procedures, know how to input documents into a database, and inform applicants of documents needed to complete their files.
  • Knows how to manage work flow, work independently in recognizing, prioritizing and completing assigned tasks.
  • Has expertise in working effectively with a team to provide excellent service to prospective students, applicants, students, and faculty.
  • Takes initiative to address problems or issues as they arise and recommends strategies for continued improvement in serving prospective students, applicants, students, and faculty.
