The Assistant Director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) assists the Director with the overall management, personnel, and operational functions of the counseling center. In addition to the administrative role, the Assistant Director will provide clinical intakes and individual as well as couples counseling; conduct crisis intervention; develop, facilitate, and evaluate outreach presentations and workshops; and provide consultation to faculty, staff, and students. The Assistant Director coordinates the practicum/intern program for CAPS. The position provides supervision to at least one practicum/intern per semester and is the advisor or chair of one of the outreach programs (SHAPE or AWARE) associated with CAPS. The Assistant Director is responsible for the maintenance of the CAPS webpage and Instagram account as well as assists the Director with the electronic filing system used at CAPS. The Assistant Director actively coordinates and collaborates with other University departments and participates on various Division of Student Affairs and/or university committees as applicable and is a visible participant within the University community. This position requires after-hours work, including after hours on-call crisis management rotation and flexibility in assignments. On-call crisis management requires being on campus within 20 minutes of receiving phone call. 

Required Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college/university in marriage and family counseling, professional counselor, social work, OR a PhD or PsyD in psychology is required. Additionally candidates must have three years of individual and/or couples therapy experience post graduation from Master’s or Doctoral program that must include some crisis management and outreach/program development. At least one year of post graduation supervisory experience is also required. Candidates must have current full Licensure as a Psychologist, LMFT, LCSW, LPC in the State of Georgia. If not licensed in Georgia, candidate must be fully licensed in another state with the ability to be licensed in Georgia within 6 months of hire.


-Able to provide individual, group and couples counseling to diverse constituencies on a university campus.
-Ability to establish rapport with clients within a therapeutic context.
-Ability to provide crisis intervention to assist students including after work hours. On-call management requires being on campus within 20 minutes of receiving phone call.
-Experience with supervision of intern or practicum student.
-Ability to create and execute psycho-educational programs on various levels to the university campus.
-Excellent judgment, problem solving, sophistication in thought, and good knowledge of the myriad of factors leading to the resolution of psychological problems.
-Critical thinking, organizational skills and attention to detail.
-Strong leadership skills and interpersonal skills.
-Sensitive to & supportive of cultural diversity issues.
-Strong interest in program outreach/development.
