Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean of Student Affairs, the Director of Student Research, Service, and Career Counseling Support helps provide access to information, experience, and guidance for students as they choose their areas of work. Incumbent will create, oversee, and deliver the Career Counseling curriculum during the Bears Prepare sessions. The Director will also assist the School of Medicine by remaining available to graduates and the programs they enter. In addition, the Director will encourage students, especially those who leave the state for postgraduate training, to choose mission-compliant locations in Georgia to practice and maintain an accurate list of all graduates and their practice locations as well as a list of the intern year program directors/contact information. This position will serve as a liaison to rural communities and hospitals that have positions available or are actively recruiting graduates. This position will also manage the Student Research/Coordinator by providing data and information to students on student research and service opportunities. This includes identifying opportunities for research and service opportunities and establishing and maintaining those relationships.

Required Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in a healthcare related field, counseling, higher education, or other relevant field from an accredited college/university is required.  Additionally, candidates must have at least four years of related experience, which can include counseling students or student services experience.  Candidates with a master's degree and/or prior experience working in higher education, particularly in a medical school, are highly desirable. 

The successful candidate must: 

  • Be able to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with all management levels within MUSM as well as key individuals in other organizations/agencies in order to provide maximum support to students, faculty, and others being served by MUSM.
  • Be highly service oriented with strong interpersonal skills that enable incumbent to interact effectively with current and prospective students, full-time and part-time faculty as well as other administrative staff.
  • Be highly organized and able to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Have knowledge of general business programs, policies and procedures is required to ensure effective/efficient.
  • Be able to respond effectively to numerous and varied situations, analyze issues, and respond quickly and correctly to resolve problems and support the needs of students, faculty, staff, and others on all the MUSM Campuses.

Candidates must have a valid driver's license as this position requires some travel.
