Responsibilities
The Department of Computer Science in Mercer University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is accepting applications for a tenure track faculty position. The appointment will be effective August 1, 2020.
 
Applicants should have a strong commitment to undergraduate education. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in computer science, data science, and information technology, directing undergraduate research projects, and serving as faculty advisor for students majoring in computer science or information science and technology. Responsibilities also include assisting in curriculum development within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Maintaining an active research program that complements the department’s current areas of interest is also expected. Preference will be given to applicants that have demonstrated scholarly ability in the area of data science and that have experience developing data science curricula for undergraduates.
Qualifications
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in computer science. Applicants who are ABD will be considered for the interview process provided there is evidence that all degree requirements will be completed by time of appointment. Applicants must have a demonstrated academic and/or professional background in core computer science topics.

The Computer Science Department, situated in the College of Liberal Arts and Science, offers the BS degrees in computer science, computational science, and information science and technology. BA degrees are offered in both computer science and information science and technology. BS and BA degrees in cybersecurity are expected to begin in the fall of 2020. The BS degree program in computer science is accredited by ABET. The Department also offers coursework in support of the Computer Engineering major that is offered through the School of Engineering, and coursework for Business majors in the School of Business.
