Responsibilities

The incumbent will provide support to projects led by the PI. This position requires experience in catheter surgery for intravenous drug delivery.

Required Qualifications

The Research Assistant I position requires a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences or a related field from an accredited college/university and some research experience. The Research Assistant II position requires a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences or a related field from an accredited college/university and a minimum of one year of related research experience. The Research Assistant III position requires a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences or a related field and three years of related research experience of which some of that time must be in a lead role or a related master's degree from an accredited college/university and one year of relevant research experience of which some of that time must be in a lead role.

Coursework not considered as experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Possess the laboratory skills necessary for experimental procedures in rat intracranial surgery, intravenous catheter self-administration of drugs, animal handling and rodent transgenic colony management. Some of these skills may be acquired by training on the job, but after training, the Research Assistant is expected to work without continuous supervision.
  • Knows how to record information clearly and accurately in order to maintain laboratory notebooks.
  • Possesses the organizational and management skills to maintain general order, cleanliness and safety of the laboratory.
  • Has the ability to repeatedly lift weights up to 25 lbs.
  • Possesses basic computer skills such as Microsoft word and Excel.
  • Good interpersonal skills, able to communicate both verbally and in written form with others.
  • Ability to learn molecular biology skills such as Immunofluorescence and DNA gel electrophoresis. Having these skills is an asset.
