Responsibilities

The Medical Practice Administrator of Mercer Medicine independently performs the oversight and management of the Mercer Medicine Physician Practice Plan related to revenue growth, financial results, physician productivity, customer service, and service line development. Will ensure that the revenue cycle remains effective in producing established revenue goals and is responsive to the needs of Mercer Medicine patients, providers, staff and the University. Collaborates with the President of Mercer Medicine, the Managing Partner of Mercer Medicine, and the Executive Director of Finance & Administration for MUSM to prepare the Mercer Medicine (MM) Practice Plan component of the annual operating and capital budgets. The Medical Practice Administrator will serve as the senior administrator at Mercer Medicine and will oversee all units of the organization. This includes planning, organizing, coordinating, and managing clinical/medical services while ensuring the level of quality care offered by Mercer Medicine is maintained at the highest levels for the organization. This position requires the ability to interpret financial analysis regarding physician productivity, operating expenses, and the revenue cycle. The Medical Practice Administrator will independently produce analytical reports that document the financial viability and performance of the MM practice plan. This individual will communicate their analysis to the President of Mercer Medicine, the Managing Partner of Mercer Medicine, the Executive Director of Finance & Administration for MUSM, the MM Board of Managers and others within the organization as appropriate.

Required Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or other closely related field and five years of progressive management experience in healthcare administration, with a focus on primary care, and preferably in a medium to large sized multi-specialty, multi-location outpatient (ambulatory) setting. This must include experience that developed knowledge of provider billing, collections, credentialing, compliance, regulatory guidelines, and fee schedules. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point are required as well as previous experience with practice plan, hospital systems, and financial systems software, including electronic medical record (EMR) systems. Exceptional organizational and time-management skills are a must.

Candidates must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the university's carrier.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Required to know all aspects of the medical practice management standards; financial management, human resource management, budget planning, information management, business and clinical operations and professional responsibility.
  • The Medical Practice Administrator will work from a private office setting but will be expected to travel to off-site practice locations and to off-site business meetings when appropriate.
  • In-depth analytical skills for formulating recommendations to the President of Mercer Medicine, the Managing Partner, the Executive Director of Finance & Administration, and University officials regarding the Mercer Medicine annual budget and clinician productivity performance activity.
