The Department of Biology at Mercer University seeks to hire three tenure-track Faculty of Biology (rank commensurate upon experience and degree). The growing department is looking for the following foci: 1) genetics, 2) neurobiology, 3) physiology.

Responsibilities include teaching five to six courses (21 hours) per academic year at the undergraduate level, including one of two introductory biology courses, a course in the stated focus area, and upper division specialty courses according to the applicant’s area of expertise. In addition, the successful candidate will support the work of the department by carrying out biological research with undergraduates, advising students, developing new courses in the discipline, and promoting the Biology Program at regular university events. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue a scholarship of discovery agenda and provide service to the college, university, and academy.


An earned Ph.D. degree from an accredited college/university in Biological Science or a related field is required, with a strong emphasis in genetics/molecular biology, neurobiology, or physiology is strongly preferred. Exceptional ABD candidates with a firm completion date will also be considered at the rank of Instructor. We are also interested in applicants who can contribute to our interdisciplinary majors of Neuroscience and of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. A promise of excellence in teaching and scholarly activity in the context of a liberal arts college; interest in research involving undergraduate students; and membership in Phi Beta Kappa are considered added advantages.
