The Department of Computer Science in Mercer University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is accepting applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor.  The appointment will be effective August 1, 2023.

Applicants should have a strong commitment to undergraduate education. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in computer science (including software engineering and AI), data science, and information technology, directing undergraduate research projects, and serving as faculty advisor for students majoring in computer science or information science and technology.  Maintaining an active research program that complements the department’s current areas of interest is also expected. 


Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in computer science from an accredited college/university. Applicants who are ABD will be considered for the interview process provided there is evidence that all degree requirements will be completed by time of appointment. Applicants must have a demonstrated academic and/or professional background in core computer science topics. Preference will be given to applicants that have demonstrated scholarly ability in the area of data science, secure software development, artificial intelligence, or app development.

The Computer Science Department, situated in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, offers degrees in cybersecurity, computer science, computational science, and information science and technology. The BS degree program in computer science is accredited by ABET.  The Department also offers coursework in Computer Engineering major, Master’s programs in Cybersecurity and Software Systems that are offered through Mercer’s School of Engineering and coursework for Business majors in Mercer’s School of Business.
