Responsibilities

The Director for Operations and Event Management oversees the operation of athletic facilities, events, and practice schedules. This position reports to the Athletic Director and works closely with the coaching staff, student-athletes, visiting institutions, officials, external and internal units using athletic facilities.

The Director is responsible for the organization, planning, implementation, production and event administration of intercollegiate athletics and hosted special events. This position will coordinate with on-campus departments (i.e. Mercer Police, Physical Plant, Concessions, Special Event Catering, and Risk Management) and contracted services (Health Services provider and communications vendor) to ensure appropriate support services for events. This position will hire, train and supervise operations staff to prepare athletic venues for games and practice.

Required Qualifications

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university and one year of directly relevant experience that must include management of other staff, facilities, game day operations and scheduling are required.

  • Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills both orally and in writing
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Strong background in NCAA athletics with an emphasis in event management
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, diverse work environment and the proven experience working cooperatively with diverse groups and administrators, staff and students
  • Proficiency in computer use including Word, Excel, Internet, and other relevant software
  • Ability to repeatedly lift and carry 50 lbs. for periods of one to two hours in order to move equipment
  • The ability to use strong interpersonal skills to communicate with others and be customer service oriented while also being able to work in a diverse and dynamic environment.
  • The ability to act in a professional manner as a representative of Mercer University Athletics.
  • Organization and attention to detail are necessary in order to complete assigned tasks that are associated with game-day operations and facility management.
