The Public Services Library (PSL) contributes to the mission of the Mercer University Libraries and to the Swilley Graduate and Professional Library (SGPL) by providing innovative and effective supervision of all aspects of the Library’s public services by managing the Circulation Services department, and by serving as a Research Services Librarian. The PSL demonstrates superb leadership by modeling excellent customer service, assisting in patron-driven acquisitions inquiries, and supervising all aspects of the Circulation desk including employee training and evaluation, scheduling, Interlibrary loan services, building and security management, print collection management, circulation customer service training, and policy drafting and implementation. As a member of the Research Services team, the PSL provides one-on-one consultations, offers in-class instruction, works with other Research Services Librarians in covering the virtual calendar, and utilizes 24/7 reference instruction models and tools designed to support 21st-century library users.

Required Qualifications

A master's of library information science degree or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution is required, along with demonstrated relevant circulation/public services or reference experience in a library, which must include supervisory experience. Candidates with 3-5 years in Academic Librarianship are preferred. Successful candidates must have competence in online reference tools such as LibGuides, LibAns, LibChat, Alma/Primo, Social Media, Zoom, and Microsoft Office products.


• Strong customer service skills and an understanding of patron-driven library services
• Commitment to excellent customer service, strong organizational, and interpersonal communication skills, including initiative, creativity, problem-solving, and knowledge of professional trends
• Ability to strategize, and to set and complete goals
• Reference experience with all formats and subjects, preferably in an academic library
• Ability to master new library skills, including skills with all varieties of library technology
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to express ideas clearly for written reports and correspondence
