Responsibilities

The Client Service Assistant must be articulate and professional as first point of phone contact for Mercer University Press. This position handles all order processing and title information queries submitted by individuals and vendors by phone, email, and online vendor sites. The CSA is responsible for billing, filing, and accounts receivable; must become familiar with all MUP current and backlist titles, discount information, and title availability; must quickly become proficient using Acumen Book database and numerous vendor websites; must establish and maintain good working relationships with customers, vendors, authors, and MUP and university staff to enhance the productivity and reputation of the Press; and is assigned limited warehouse/shipping duties as needed. Assist Marketing Director with social media and blog postings, review copies, or other marketing duties appropriate for skill set of candidate. Under indirect supervision, the CSA must work independently and as part of a small, versatile, and dynamic team.

Required Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED and one year of support experience that must include accounts receivable and customer service experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and professional phone etiquette necessary as first point of phone contact for the Press.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, with the ability to quickly learn Acumen Book software and efficiently use email, internet, and online vendor sites to process orders and communicate with customers are key to this position.
  • Strong general business math and accounting skills required to handle orders, billing, and accounts receivable.
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and versatility are essential to properly maintain workload.
  • Proper business writing, spelling, and grammar skills are necessary to work in a university and professional publishing setting.
  • Must be comfortable working on Mac computer. PC used at warehouse.
