The IT/Audio Visual Support Specialist operates under the direct supervision of the Director of Audio Visual Services. This position is responsible for the setup, maintenance, security and administration of the Columbus, GA campus desktops, computer labs, network and media IT resources. This position independently supports the use of Classroom, Conference room, Distance Learning resources and instructional technology for the Columbus Campus. Responsibilities include operating, multimedia equipment to include Video Cameras, Document Cameras, LCD equipment, Projectors and Codecs, assisting users with presentations / operations of Distance Learning technology, diagnosing equipment malfunctions, and replacement of parts / equipment when necessary under the direction of vendor or AV help desk. Under the indirect supervision of the Systems Manager, this position will assist with faculty/staff/student computers to include mapping network drives, software installation, wireless networking installation, and file transfers from one system to another. This position interfaces directly with IT resources and personnel from Mercer University and local hospitals in order to ensure IT needs of the Medical School located in Columbus are compatible and properly met.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and three years of Audio Visual experience, which must include computer support and network connectivity experience. Candidates must have experience using a wide array of multimedia/AV equipment and have experience with delivery of PC hardware/software support. Candidates with a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline are preferred. Additionally, candidates who are a Certified Technology Specialist and/or have A+ certification or equivalent are highly desirable. 


Candidates must have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • The ability to setup, calibrate, operate, and troubleshoot audio visual equipment. Equipment to include digital sound systems, microphones, projectors, interactive boards, video conferencing, and digital signage.
  • Experience and skills in PC Hardware installation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of PC desktop printer drivers, upgrades and OS updates.
  • Knowledge of a Windows Networking environment in order to configure faculty / staff connectivity issues.
  • Knowledge of MS Windows Operating System, Apple OS, and MS Office in order to assist in setup and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, students, faculty, staff, and administration within a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines to insure time sensitive meetings are setup and available on time (both scheduled and unscheduled).
  • Ability to move, lift and carry up to 30 lbs. for short distances with or without reasonable accommodation.
