Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Director of International Recruitment and Student Success, the Assistant Director of International Student Services will work as an extension of the Office of International Recruitment and student success to provide continuous student services to undergraduate students on the residential undergraduate campus. The successful candidate will collaborate extensively with academic advising units, residence life, and student affairs to assist in the success and retention of international students throughout their academic programs. The position is also responsible for coordinating initial orientation activities for international students as well as ongoing programming to assist in their acculturation, retention, and academic success as well as serving as a counselor and advocate for international students on campus.

Required Qualifications

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university is required along with one year of experience working with students in a residential undergraduate campus in an academic advising or student affairs context, where at least some of that experience was working with international students as well as students from varied cultural backgrounds. Candidates with a master's degree and/or experience working or living abroad in the educational sector are highly desirable. 

The successful candidate must have the following:

  • Proven ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing
  • Basic understanding of US immigration law, visa categories, and procedures that international students must follow to maintain legal presence in the US
  • Knowledge of common regulations and best practices governing residential campuses, including FERPA, the Cleary Act, as well as best practices in international education and student affairs
  • Multicultural awareness

The successful candidate must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the university's carrier as this position requires travel.
