Responsibilities

This position is to serve as a working supervisor for the building maintenance staff of the Atlanta campus Physical Plant. The area of responsibility may change from time to time as designated by Physical Plant management. The incumbent will supervise a minimum of (3) Maintenance Technician II positions. The incumbent will work directly with his/her subordinates, will make maintenance decisions, solve day-to-day problems, and will perform maintenance and repairs for the designated facilities along with other duties as assigned. Communicates with various faculty, staff, and students to keep them informed on repair work that impacts them. Processes paperwork associated with the work. The incumbent will work with limited direction from the Director of Facilities.

Required Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED is required, along with five years of progressive general maintenance or construction related experience.

Candidate must have the following knowledge/skills/abilities:

  • Must be able to perform maintenance and/or repair in the following fields, (electrical, plumbing, general maintenance, and carpentry).
  • Must have the knowledge and ability to identify problems. Must exercise good sound judgment in resolving problems.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with direct reports, senior management and customers.
  • Must be able to use the computer to send and receive emails, implement performance evaluations, input data related to purchasing card receipts and other uses associated with job tasks.
  • Must have the ability to read and understand blueprints and design drawings.
  • Must have a good understanding of city, county, state and federal regulations and codes.
  • Must have the physical ability to perform assigned duties.
  • Must have good organizational skills to effectively manage the paperwork associated with the job requirements, and the ability to prioritize work responsibilities.

Satisfactory completion of a Building and Facilities Maintenance program or a technical certificate from a recognized technical school and/or prior experience working in a college or university setting are desirable.

Candidates must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the university's insurance carrier.
