The Mercer University Tift College of Education is a community with the mission to advance the study of education and prepare educators to teach, to learn, to create, to discover, to empower, and to serve, all for the betterment of a diverse and just society. In support of this mission, the Tift College is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor of Educational Leadership with experience and credentials in P-12 leadership (school or district level) to teach, engage in scholarship, and provide professional and university service in support of the College’s Education Leadership programs. Reporting to the Chair of the Atlanta Teacher Education and Educational Leadership units, the successful candidate will be housed on the University’s Atlanta Campus. The position is a 9-month tenure-track appointment, with the opportunity for summer employment. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching in-person and online courses in the College’s graduate level P-12 Educational Leadership programs, advising students enrolled in these graduate programs, and guiding the research of doctoral students. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence in research, with the strong potential for securing external funding.  It is also expected that the successful candidate will participate in activities of programmatic development and professional development linked to instructional quality and student success as well as service to the professional and University communities. Additionally, it is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to an environment of professionalism and collaboration within the educational leadership programs and the College.



  • Earned doctorate in P-12 educational leadership from an accredited college or university
  • Five or more years of experience as a P-12 school administrator at the district and/or building level in a public or independent school setting
  • Expertise in leading effective change at the school or district level in settings serving students from diverse economic and ethnic backgrounds
  • Knowledgeable of quantitative and/or qualitative research methods
  • Superior interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to support a culture of collaboration, inclusion, equity, and diversity


  • Facility in the use of technology to develop and deliver online synchronous and asynchronous instruction
  • Experience teaching educational leadership courses and providing dissertation advisement to doctoral candidates as a committee chair or member
  • Strong evidence of scholarly productivity in education leadership or a related area
  • Demonstrated ability to obtain federal, state and/or private grants and contracts and manage funded projects 
  • Understanding of the intersection of research and practice in school leadership
