Responsibilities

Assures program plans are developed and coordinated across the product area.

Develops and executes all technical aspects of contracts within their product area portfolio.

Manages the engineering team and oversees training of new employees in their respective product area.

Justifies all budget and resource allocation recommendations to senior management for their respective product area.

Oversees preparation of reports, such as statistical and data analysis reports, for all engineering processes including reports and data analysis for review by the executive staff.

Responsible for interfacing with customers to identify, develop and capture new business opportunities.

Ensures all programs stay within budget and schedule.

Allocates resources effectively including personnel, materials, and time.

Reviews quality and effectiveness of the finished product.

Provides training strategy development for their product area. Ensures thorough familiarity and awareness of all MERC core capabilities to all assigned to the product area.

Provides capital investment requirement for their product area.

Leads proposal writing teams in the development of proposals.

Builds market position by locating, developing, defining, negotiating, and closing business relationships.

Identifies trendsetter ideas by researching industry and related events, publications, and announcements; tracking individual contributors and their accomplishments.

Locates or proposes potential business deals by contacting potential partners; discovering and exploring opportunities.

Promotes MERC capabilities and interests to customers and potential customers.

Protects MERC’s intellectual property by keeping information confidential.

Required Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering (EE, ME, AE, IE, etc.) field from an ABET accredited institution and 15 years of experience leading technical teams; or an advanced degree in a relevant engineering field and 12 years of experience leading technical teams.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Extensive experience in the designated industry including but not limited to: aerospace, electrical, software, environmental, biomedical, mechanical, and systems engineering.

Must have experience leading teams of individuals from a variety of different backgrounds and disciplines.

Knowledge of the principles of engineering, analysis, test, and design is required.

Must possess exceptional organizational and time management skills with an obsessive attention to detail.

Must be able to collaborate and bridge the communications gap between the engineering team, service technicians, business development, operations staff, and clients, interfacing with each.

Must have superior budgeting and cost management abilities, assessing estimated costs early in the program and bringing the actual costs within budget.

Must be able to draft clear and comprehensive reports on the statistical efficacy of programs, the use and allocation of resources, and the quality of each finished program.

Must possess technical acumen and the ability to troubleshoot on a variety of programs.

Must be able to perform business development activities to include: customer interface, estimating and scheduling; technical proposal development, and follow through.

Position is exempt from 9/80 work schedule.

Updates job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

Protects operations by keeping information confidential.

Provides information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing development and service issues.

Accomplishes engineering and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

Supports and develops software engineers by providing advice, coaching and educational opportunities.
