The Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for writing content for a variety of enrollment-related marketing/communications deliverables (such as brochures, flyers, emails, webpages, ads, etc.) to be used across multiple channels, and managing existing content for appropriate use to ensure accuracy and consistency across publications and deliverables produced to support student recruitment and retention for traditional undergraduate, post-traditional (adult) undergraduate, and graduate and professional programs. This position will also proofread and edit content produced by other team members to ensure adherence to brand standards and style guides.
The Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications will also provide graphic design support for print and digital marketing deliverables, including email graphics, web graphics, social media graphics, photo resizing and optimization, blog assets, event graphics, and print collateral and will support management of other graphic and creative content assets, such as coordinating photo and video shoots, organizing and managing photo and video assets, and assisting with organizing and managing graphics files. This position will also execute production of in-house print jobs (such as event materials), and manage external print/production jobs (including promotional items), as assigned.
The Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications will also operate a WordPress-based website content management system to maintain and update existing webpages, build and design new webpages, and write/edit content for search engine optimization.
This position will also support some central team operational needs, including budget/resource tracking and invoice management, and other duties as assigned.
A bachelor's degree in Communication, Technical Communication, Graphic Design, English, Marketing, Business, or a related field from an accredited college/university is required, as well as two years of prior experience that should include the following:
-Writing and editing content with a marketing voice for a variety of audiences
-Managing content and brand assets and ensuring adherence to policies and standards
-Coordinating and collaborating with graphic designers, writers, photographers, printers, etc., to develop and produce content, assets, artwork, and deliverables
The successful candidate must possess the following:
-Understand the admissions recruitment process from multiple internal points of view for multiple target audiences
-Strong project management, resource management, and organizational skills with ability to set timelines, map milestones, meet deadlines, and juggle multiple projects with competing priorities
-Understand the industry standards for delivering print projects to production companies to ensure a smooth process
-Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress and basic HTML coding, relevant web browsers, and applications across multiple desktop and mobile devices
-Understand web technologies and applications, including social networking, social media tools, and current communication trends
-Outstanding writing, editing, and proofreading skills with ability to identify the needs for shifts in voice, message, etc., to fit a particular audience, medium, and purpose; proven record of success and ability to recognize, adopt, and adhere to brand standards, voice, and tone
-Ability to create and design graphics and documents for print and digital marketing deliverables, and execute other design-related tasks, using Adobe software with an excellent eye for design and ability to adhere to brand standards
-Ability to evaluate photographs, video, and writing against set standards so photographs, video, and copy meet needs of the project
-Strong capacity for working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
This position requires someone who is creative, extremely detail-oriented, easy to work with, flexible, self-motivated, and has a personal commitment to excellence and efficiency in his/her work. The person must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to learn facts and details quickly and apply the information to other projects. The person must exhibit enthusiasm for both marketing and higher education and a willingness and proven ability to work under the urgency of deadlines and during irregular hours. He/she should enjoy challenges and working with a variety of people in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. The person must have the ability to travel on occasion as required.
Must have proven record of creating effective marketing and communications content. Must have excellent grammar, writing, and proofreading skills and a creative eye for design combined with technical design production skills. Should have experience in handling multiple projects at the same time and successfully completing them on time. Needs to feel comfortable working over the telephone and through email.
