Responsibilities

Responsibilities include the following:
• Teach and supervise students in the Habeas Project, including providing feedback, mentoring, and training.
• Manage ongoing cases, ensuring that the case work is filed in a timely and professional manner.
• Develop and maintain supportive relationships with clinic clients, including regular communication and client visits, including clinic students during the academic year.
• Manage the administrative aspects of the clinic, including students’ practice petitions, malpractice insurance coverage, and adequate records maintenance and preservation.
• Build and maintain relationships within the bench and bar, including appellate clinics at other law schools.
• Cultivate internal and external resources and support for the program.

Required Qualifications

A JD degree from an accredited institution is required along with at least eight years of appellate and post-conviction litigation experience. Experience in teaching or supervising interns and/or junior attorneys is also required.  Must be a member of the Georgia Bar and a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of Georgia. 

The successful candidate must have extremely strong oral and written communication and organizational skills. Ability to work independently, as well as in teams, and in demanding and periodically high stress circumstances. Strong motivation, initiative, demonstrated ability to work creatively within broad program goals. Strong motivation to lead and inspire superior professional practice. Strong organization, time management, case management and documentation skills. Previous teaching experience is desired. Demonstrated commitment to public interest work and social justice issues is a plus.
