Responsibilities

Under indirect supervision, this position involves planning, supervising and assisting faculty and students with instruction in the civil, environmental, and mechanical engineering laboratories. Installing and maintaining equipment in engineering laboratories with the assistance of vendors and suppliers will be required. This person will also assist students with capstone design projects and faculty and students with research projects.

Required Qualifications

Two years of college coursework in Engineering or Engineering Technology or an Associate of Science in Engineering Technology is required, along with two years of experience in lab operations, including experience managing and ordering parts and materials as well as working with lab instruction and safety.  Associate of Science in Engineering Technology is preferred. ACI/CMEC (American Concrete Institute/Concrete Material Engineering Council) or Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) certification in soils, concrete and/or asphalt testing preferred. Experience in teaching is highly desired.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

- Some knowledge of modern laboratory techniques, equipment, and procedures utilized in soils, concrete and asphalt testing
- Some knowledge of appropriate standards for tests being performed
- Skills in the application and operation of equipment utilized in a materials testing laboratory
- Has the ability to keep records and organize equipment and supply inventories to maintain and operate laboratories
- Has the people skills needed to work with students effectively
- Ability to train and supervise students in laboratory operations
- Ability to set up, calibrate, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain sample testing equipment and instruments
- Ability to prepare and process laboratory samples using established protocols
- Knowledge of data collection techniques
