Responsibilities

The Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM) Dean’s Office seeks an Associate Dean for Student Affairs to join our Student Affairs Office. The incumbent is responsible for upholding the mission of the school and is responsible for providing overall leadership and oversight of the programs that support students and enhance their educational experience in the School of Medicine. For over thirty years, MUSM has focused on training medical students to fulfill MUSM’s mission of preparing healthcare professionals to meet the primary care and health care needs of rural and underserved Georgia residents and communities. Emphasizing interactive and problem-based teaching strategies, our student-centered faculty provides a conceptual and practical foundation that equips graduates to be discerning consumers and innovative producers of knowledge across a variety of medical and community settings, as well as academic institutions. Through teaching, scholarship, and service, students and faculty work closely to have local, regional, national, and international impact.

Qualifications

Candidates must:

  • Hold a terminal degree, M.D. or Ph.D., from an accredited college/university
  • Have a minimum of five years experience in Medical School Administration/Educational Leadership
  • Set highest ethical and moral standards for students, faculty, and staff
  • Possess strong organizational and managerial skills
  • Provide demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work with members of the academic and clinical community
  • Display a strong service orientation and commitment to teamwork

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience fostering a safe, healthy and supporting environment for students, including participation and in planning and monitoring of student health services, student counseling and mental health services, diversity training, HIPAA training, etc.
  • Experience coordinating and participating in the planning and execution of the multiple recurring cycle of academic events which include but is not limited to incoming student orientation, white coat ceremony, commencement, student awards ceremony, match day etc.
  • Experience monitoring the academic progress of students, and providing academic and personal counseling with referral(s) to student counseling services as required and/or necessary
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Pay Rate

Commensurate with experience
