Responsibilities

Mercer University seeks an experienced, creative, and strategic professional to serve as Director of Development for the School of Medicine (DOD/MUSM).  This position will be charged with coordinating fundraising and related events and activities in an effort to foster a continuing relationship between the School of Medicine and its alumni/friends.  The primary responsibilities of the job are to encourage alumni, friends, foundations and corporations to provide support to the School and University through their time, service and monetary gifts.  Specifically, this position is responsible for insuring the School's annual fund goal is met each fiscal year, the School's campaign goals are met and the School's major fundraising events are planned and orchestrated successfully.  While reporting directly to the Senior Vice President for University Advancement, the DOD/MUSM will maintain direct communication with and support the initiatives of the medical school dean as they relate to advancement efforts.  While serving as a member of the overall University Advancement staff, the DOD/MUSM will also be expected to work collaboratively with other members of the advancement team in the areas of alumni relations, annual giving, corporate/foundation relations, capital campaign, planned giving and prospect research.

Required Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university/college and two years of experience working in fundraising/development/advancement, direct sales, business development, fundraising and/or activities where relationship building is essential or other related business experience are required. The ideal candidate will have professional experience directing a successful fundraising campaign in higher education, specifically for a health science unit. Candidates must demonstrate exceptional written and public speaking skills.  The incumbent should be creative and energetic and possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.  The candidate must be able to travel and work evenings and weekends to facilitate cultivation of constituents. The successful candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the University’s carrier.
