Responsibilities

The Academic Advisor will act as the primary academic mentor for undergraduate students of SSBE in Atlanta and the Regional Academic Centers. The primary responsibilities of the job will include: advising students regarding course selection and academic requirements on a consistent, scheduled basis at each of the Atlanta, Henry RAC, and Douglas RAC locations; maintaining complete and accurate documentation of all student interactions; designing program completion plans; consistently updating records of student grades and performance measures; training students to properly use Mercer’s educational tools (MyMercer, Canvas, Office 365); and completing and evaluating degree audits as students near the end of their program. The goal of the job is to develop relationships and to become a trusted and consistently available resource for the students of SSBE, and to provide accurate and dependable guidance in an effort to increase both student retention and degree completion. The Academic Advisor will operate under the direct supervision of the Assistant Dean.

Required Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university is required. A BBA or degree in a business related field is desirable. In addition, candidates must have prior experience in University advising, University admissions and/or recruiting, or relevant corporate experience. Experience working with adult learners is a plus. The successful candidate must be able to use the University’s student information system, referred to as CampusNexus, in order to access, update, and manage student records.  Must be proficient with MS-Excel, MS-Word, and MS-PowerPoint in order to prepare reports, presentations, analyze data, and facilitate written communication. The successful candidate must be a team player and committed to the success of students.  This position requires independent travel to the Henry and Douglas Regional Academic Centers as an essential function of the position.
