Responsibilities

The Systems Manager I will manage and support all computer systems and networks associated with the Informatics program in the department. This position will research, install, maintain, and upgrade physical and virtual server, switch, and router infrastructures; provide firewall and intrusion protection services and maintenance; monitor and analyze network performance; and respond to department’s faculty/staff requests for software and hardware support, including audio and visual support.

This position is based on the Atlanta campus with regular travel to Mercer's Regional Academic Centers.  

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in computer science or a closely related field and two years of experience working with computer systems and networks which must include system server administration and LAN Management. In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience will be considered. 

A master's degree from an accredited college/university in computer science or a closely related field is desirable as well as prior knowledge and experience working with cloud computing. Experience working in a research or academic environment is also preferred. Possession of any or all of the following certifications are also desirable: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), and/or
Certified Coding Associate (CCA).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

The successful candidate will have networking knowledge using Cisco and/or Juniper hardware as well as familiarity with three-tier architecture publishing process and support, software/networking administration (IIS, Apache), scripting and system level programming/shell language.  In addition, the incumbent must have operating systems knowledge such as Windows 10, Windows NT and Macintosh computer on PC level as well as Windows Server 2008/2012 administration, Unix, and Linux administration. Excellent communication skills are required.
