Responsibilities

The Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM) invites applications for a 12 month, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Microbiology to join the Department of Biomedical Sciences. Rank will depend on the qualifications of the candidate. The anticipated start date is on or before July 1, 2019.

We seek a qualified microbiologist who studies the nature of the microbiome and its impact on human health.  Microbiologists that are currently following a translational and/or clinical path of research and/or are investigating specific mechanisms involved in gastrointestinal tract colonization are encouraged to apply.

The Department of Biomedical Sciences is a deeply rooted, integral part of MUSM that continues to focus on preparing and training healthcare professionals to meet the primary care and health care needs of rural, medically underserved Georgia residents and communities. We are organized as a single department that includes multidisciplinary faculty at 2 campuses, located in Macon and Savannah, GA. The applicants may select either campus as their preference for employment.

The selected candidate is expected to maintain an independent externally funded research program at MUSM and also participate in MUSM’s problem-based medical curriculum.

Applicants are asked to submit a cover letter, a CV, research plans and interests, a statement on teaching philosophy, and the contact information for three referees. Review of applications will start December 10, 2018 and continue until a candidate is selected.

Candidates must have a Ph.D, or equivalent degree from an accredited college/university plus some postdoctoral experience.  Competitive candidates should have demonstrated research success and productivity through publication and national recognition.
