Responsibilities

The goal of research projects led by the principal investigator (PI) is to identify molecular and synaptic mechanisms underlying pathological pain conditions using different animal (mice or rats) models. The incumbents will provide research support to projects led by the PI; apply research skills and neuroscience knowledge to follow or adapt protocols and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the research; design and implement research protocols with the PI.

Required Qualifications

The Research Assistant I position requires a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences or a related field from an accredited college/university and some research experience.  The Research Assistant II position requires a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences or a related field from an accredited college/university and a minimum of one year of related research experience. The Research Assistant III position requires a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences or a related field and three years of related research experience of which some of that time must be in a lead role or a related master's degree from an accredited college/university and one year of relevant research experience of which some of that time must be in a lead role.  

Prior experience with animal (rats or mice) research experiments is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

The successful candidate will have the ability to learn and perform molecular experiments (Western blotting, PCR, immunohistology, Chip assay) or electrophysiology (whole cell patch clamping) experiments.  In addition, the ability to learn and perform animal behavioral experiments to measure mechanical and thermal sensitivity in animals is required.  The incumbent will also have the ability to analyze experimental data and formulate initial conclusions.
