Responsibilities

The Assistant Director independently educates and advises students and graduates regarding all aspects of the job search. To advance this objective, the Assistant Director conducts seminars, career information forums, and orientations in addition to meeting individually with students and alumni. Under indirect supervision, the Assistant Director researches, provides outreach and assists in efforts to recruit employers; such efforts may include marketing Mercer and its students to legal employers, implementing new initiatives to develop job prospects in both the private and public sectors, and representing Mercer at professional events, meetings, and job fairs. The Assistant Director will also maintain accurate records of job statistics, student/alumni/employer meetings, and other statistics as required. The Assistant Director is committed to providing consistent, respectful, and reasonable attention to the clients, who include prospective students, current students, graduates, employers, and the legal community generally.

Required Qualifications

A Master’s or JD degree from an accredited university/college is required. Demonstrated professional experience in a legal setting is preferred. Experience in Career Services, experiential education, or other experience requiring interaction with college students and employers is highly desirable.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with employers, parents, students, university faculty and staff. Practical experience in interviewing procedures and business practices also required. Effective presentation skills for planning programs for information sessions, presenting to employers in groups or individually and teaching, is essential.
