Responsibilities

The Tift College of Education at Mercer University invites applicants for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Middle Grades/Secondary Education (Social Studies Emphasis), a nine-month, tenure track position to begin in August 2019.  The home site for this position will be Mercer University‚Äôs campus in Atlanta, GA.  Primary responsibilities will include teaching in the Middle Grades/Secondary Education Master of Arts in Teaching programs; advising and encouraging students to develop the professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions of a Transforming Educator; engaging in scholarly research; contributing to a dynamic and growing learning community through effective collaboration with students, faculty, and staff; and participating on committees as assigned.

Qualifications

An earned doctorate in Education with an emphasis on middle grades/secondary social studies from an accredited university/college (completed by the start of the position) with at least three years of successful middle grades/secondary teaching experience is required.  Must have evidence of successful teaching and effective communication, interpersonal, and technology skills.  Experience working with teachers and the ability to conduct research and publish results of scholarly activities are also required.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following: prior experience teaching at the graduate level; excellent writing and oral communication skills; strong evidence for potential of scholarly productivity; evidence of professional service to the field; and experiences with diverse school populations.

Commensurate with experience
