Responsibilities

The primary function of the Office of Fellowships and Scholarships is to identify, recruit, and mentor students applying for nationally and internationally competitive awards. Working in concert with the Director, the Coordinator will have responsibility for the following:

• Developing ongoing strategies for publicizing fellowship opportunities to current students and alumni, including maintaining a robust and current national fellowships website and utilizing social networking technologies to inform students about national fellowship opportunities
• Developing and conducting information sessions and workshops to recruit potential applicants and inform them about application processes
• Assisting students with writing personal statements and developing application materials
• Producing a wide range of informational and promotional materials for dissemination (in print and electronic formats) to students, faculty, and staff
• Working one-on-one with applicants to mentor them through the application process
• Maintaining a database to track student recruitment and competition outcomes
• Investigating and publicizing new fellowship opportunities as they arise
• Publicizing student accomplishments and recognizing fellowship and scholarship recipients
• Managing logistical aspects of information sessions, application processes, and publicity events

Required Qualifications

A master's degree in an arts or science discipline from an accredited college/university is required, along with at least one year of relevant experience, examples of which might include: teaching college composition; academic advising in a college or university setting; experience working, studying, or conducting research abroad; and/or experience with service-oriented programs such as Teach for America and/or the Peace Corps.  Prior experience in an academic environment working with high achieving students and/or with fellowship and scholarship is desired.
